KirstinGarriss.jpgKirstin Garriss joined the WHAG news team in July 2013. In June of 2015, she was one of 10 selected for the 2015 Emerging Journalist Fellowship with the Journalism and Women Symposium.

She comes to WHAG from NBC News Washington where she worked as a desk assistant. With NBC News, Kirstin worked on the overnight assignment desk, MSNBC desk and field produced at the White House. She also produced, edited and reported stories for the Nightly News website. Previously, she was an intern and then freelancer for NPR's Talk of the Nation in Washington, D.C.

Kirstin is a recent graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a B.A. in Journalism and Mass Communication (Go Tar Heels) and an active member of the National Association of Black Journalists.

When she's not reporting, Kirstin enjoys exploring the 4State area, volunteering and looking for new thrift stores! Thrifting is one of her favorite hobbies.
