Butterflies come to Washington County Through Youth United

Washington County, Md. -- Spring is here and the butterflies are out in Washington County, thanks to Youth United Way of Washington County.

Each week, 10 butterflies will flutter around the area to places where people have sponsored to help the United Way's events for children in the community.

We wanted to bring about a sense of community as well as direct their attention to the youth in the community,” said Brittany Appleby-Rumon, President of Youth United.

The butterflies' first home is at King's Kids Learning Center on Lappans Road.  Next week they will be with the Mayor.

“I think it really brings us all together, and we are on such a well traveled road that I hope that when people see this they want to jump in and do something small in their community,” said Lisa Appleby, director of King’s
Kids Learning Center

Each butterfly is $10, totaling $100 for the whole bunch. The money raised will help benefit their upcoming event, the HUB BUB Children and Youth Festival.

Right now when we look at businesses and local organizations, we don’t really see them as a paycheck,” said Appleby-Rumon. “We see them as member of our community that can directly make an impact on our community.”

Members of Youth United said they hope this fundraiser will stick around for the rest of the year and many more to come.

They are still looking for sponsors for the Flutterby fundraiser. The HUB BUB Children and Youth Festival is set for May 3rd.
