Driver Charged with Following too Closely in I-81 Crash

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Pa. - One person has been charged with following too closely after a two-vehicle crash early Thursday morning along Interstate-81. 

Pennsylvania State Police said the incident happened at 12:47 a.m. on I-81 southbound in the area of mile marker 22 in Southampton Township. 

Troopers said a 2000 Hyundai Elantra, driven by Glenn Edwards, 27, of Hagerstown, Md., was traveling approximately 70 mph when it struck the rear of a 2008 Dodge TK, driven by Michael Champion, 63, of South Hill, Virginia. 

Edwards' vehicle sustained disabling damage, but he was not hurt in the crash. Michael Champion was transported to the hospital for a suspected head and neck injury. His passenger, Karen Champion, 62, of South Hill, Va., was not injured in the crash. 

State police said all three were wearing seat belts. 

Edwards was subsequently charged with following too closely, troopers say.
