Hagerstown Speed Skater to Compete in Italy

HAGERSTOWN, MD - One of Hagerstown's athletes will soon be representing team USA in Italy in outdoor international speed skating events.

Kelsey Helman, a student at North Hagerstown High School, has qualified to represent the USA in the world team after competing earlier in outdoor nationals.  Her coach, Patty Leasier, is the owner of Turner's Skating Rink. Tuesday all the proceeds from the rink are being donated to Kelsey to help her with the cost of competing abroad.

"Rewarding is actually a phrase I used today," she says.  "Having helped put her on skates at the age of four, and watching her grow and develop as an individual, as an athlete, and develop into a wonderful young lady, it's a thrill."

Kelsey has been skating since she was four.
