GAITHERSBURG, Md. - Montgomery County detectives are investigating a possible a drowning in a Gaithersburg lake.
On Saturday evening shortly after 5 pm officers responded to Maple Lake in Washington Grove after a groundskeeper found personal belongings near the lake.
"The groundskeeper found some personal belongings and was concerned that someone might be in the water" says Sgt. Rebecca Innocenti, Montgomery County Police PIO.
Montgomery and Howard County Fire and Rescue teams searched the private lake.
"And they did local a victim and that victim was recovered last evening" says Innocenti.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Montgomery County officials say this is the third drowning incident in a month.
Officials say be sure to take precaution as bodies of water can be misleading..
"Summer is here, warm weather, people are going to be near water. If you’re going to go swimming again know your limits" says Innocenti.
A nearby resident says he strongly advises against swimming in Maple Lake.
“I wouldn’t advise them to go inside because if it’s really deep and they aren’t used to this lake and there’s no life guards to look after them" says Santi Rivas, Gaithersburg resident.
Washington Groves mayor sends her condolences to the family.
"It’s a tragedy and our hearts certainly go out to the family, we are in contact with the family, they were not residents of Washington Grove but they’ve had a terrible terrible loss" says Joli McCathran, Mayor of Washington Grove.
There is no indication of foul play in this death.
The medical examiner's office in Baltimore will determine the cause of death and assist in confirming the identity of this person.
