FREDERICK, Md. - A Brunswick man could be facing more jail time for sending inappropriate pictures of a two-year-old girl engaged in sexual activities to other people on a smart phone app.
Frederick County, Md. State's Attorneys said 34-year-old William Steinhaus is now facing up to 50 years of additional incarceration with the Frederick County Circuit Court and would be subject to lifetime registration as a sex offender as well as lifetime supervision due of the age of the victim.
An investigation revealed Steinhaus had several sexually explicit conversations on KIK, an instant messaging app, with other KIK users regarding their shared sexual interest in children in December of 2014.
Steinhaus was initially sentenced to 25 years in federal prison for sexual exploitation of a child to produce child pornography.
"It was actually separate crimes even though they were intertwined, because he was abusing the child, and he was also digitally recording and sharing it. He was charged federally with the making of the child pornography, and, locally, he was charged with the abuse of the child,” said Frederick County Maryland’s Assistant State’s Attorney Tammy Leache.
Law officials said nine of the KIK users to whom Steinhaus sent photographs of the victim were arrested and charged. Seven of them were charged federally.
Sentencing for Steinhaus has been rescheduled for April, 24.
