New Heavy Metal Playground allows people to have fun with construction equipment

From digging up dirt, to smashing cars

BOONSBORO, Md. - It’s a playground full of heavy metal!

People now have access to construction site equipment where they will be able to dig, dump, and smash!

"Whenever someone gets on the machines it goes from they're very nervous from the very beginning and they're very timid. These are very big machines, and that [ahh – haa] moment of them going. I'm actually doing this, that moment right there is what I love the most,” said Dale Maxwell with Heavy Metal Playground.

The Heavy Metal Playground is located at the Family Recreation Park on National Pike in Boonsboro, and it opened about two weeks ago.

Officials with the company say they are the only of it’s kind in the state of Maryland.

"They come, and we teach them how to operate the machinery.  We give them a safety course, and then they hop in, and then our guides talk to them through a head set so they get into a nice air conditioned cab, close the door, and then we give them instructions on how to dig dirt stack tires, and at the end of each session, they get to compete with others because we have four machines running,” said owner and operator of the Heavy Metal Playground, Mark Stevanus.

They say that they are planning on expanding to Frederick County due to the high response they've already gotten, so far.

"We're looking at different locations. Some weekends we're set up to be in Frederick County where we're probably going to do some events throughout the summer, and we're also supporting local non-profits.. So every month through the summer we're working with non profits. July is Interfaith Housing, and August is Blessings in a Backpack,” Stevanus said.
