FREDERICK, Md. - People across Frederick County, Maryland, will be smelling the fresh aroma of flowers at the annual Beyond the Garden Gates Garden Tour.
While Culler Lake is a perfect and quite place, on May 20th and 21st, people across the city of Frederick will be walking through the Beyond the Garden Gates Garden Tour.
The Garden Club of Frederick and Celebrate Frederick, Inc., organized the tour.
“They all represent all different types of gardens that you may encounter within an urban environment,” said Executive Director, Keri Amorosi with Celebrate Frederick, Inc.
The self-guided tour will feature nine of Frederick’s finest gardens that are spread throughout the city.
“[The homeowners] wither they are doing a sustainability initiative, wither they are making them Bay-Wise certified. I think it just plays into what is going on in Frederick really which is keeping things traditional, but also adhering to the trends and where we are moving towards,” said Amorosi.
And when you’re inspired to start your own garden, there will be a Green Neighbor Festival around Culler Lake. The festival is presented by Hood College’s Center for Coastal and Watershed Studies and Friends of Baker Park.
For over 20 years, people have enjoyed the garden tours marking a traditional event. So, when people see an array of fresh flowers and trees, they know it is the start of spring.
"First, you are going to see brand new gardens. Second, you are going to see new ideas; new planting, new things that have come up in the world of landscaping and agriculture,” said Amorosi.
The event runs Saturday, May 20 and Sunday, May 21 from 1 – 5 p.m.
