Man Rescued from Hole in Myersville Dies at Trauma Center

- MYERSVILLE, Md. - A man who was rescued from a hole on Tuesday in Myersville died at the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore.

Robert Craig, 26, was a plumber working on pipelines for a home under construction on Hunters Knoll. He then became trapped in a trench next to the foundation of the house for more than two hours.

Fire units from Frederick County and Montgomery County engaged in an active trench rescue operation, assisted by the Frederick County Sheriff's Office.

"Upon arrival, units found that there was an adult male patient that was conscious," said Kevin Fox of Frederick County Fire Rescue Service. "He was pinned from the waist down, from dirt and rock."

Craig was successfully rescued at about 2:15 p.m. He was then flown via medevac helicopter to Shock Trauma in Baltimore, where he later passed away due to his injuries.
