HAGERSTOWN, Md. - Dr. Boyd Michael has worked in education for the last 38 years and is happy to take on the role of being the superintendent of Washington County Public Schools.

Dr. Michael says he recently held a couple different listening sessions where he had the chance to hear feedback from parents and faculty. He says there are some exciting new initiatives that will be taking place going forward this summer.
“We're going to serve our students in roles like summer school, a summer reading program that we're rolling out, which is a new initiative as well as hard copies of books and make them available, our summer feeding program where involving the book mobile,” said Dr. Michael.
For the last nine to 10 weeks Dr. Michael was the interim superintendent and he believes that role has prepared him for his new title.
“I've felt very comfortable a wide variety of things that have come my way as far as decisions that need to be made and I think it's helped prepared me. I’m certain that there will be challenges that will come forward and together as a team will figure out the right solution,” said Dr. Michael.
For Dr. Michael, the advancement of the students is always his top priority.
“My promise to the community, to our staff, to our students is everything I do and every decision I make will be about putting students first,” said Dr. Michael.
Dr. Michael’s contract is for the next four years and he officially assumes the role on July 1st.
