Spice Overdoses Spike in Washington County

Synthetic marijuana causes at least eight overdoses in three days

HAGERSTOWN, Md. - Hagerstown Police saw at least eight overdoses in Washington County over the last three days due to synthetic marijuana or "spice."

Law enforcement officials believe the batch going around the area this week is laced with dangerous chemicals, causing the overdoses.

Officials are warning people that Spice is not “fake weed,” it's a man-made substance with unpredictable effects.

"We just mostly wanted to warn people about this...that you know, please consider, we don't want you to do any sorts of drugs or anything like that, but please consider that the one time you decide to do something like that, it could be life altering. It could be fatal,” says Heather Aleshire, spokesperson for the Hagerstown Police Department.

If you or a family member is experiencing symptoms of an overdose, please seek emergency medical attention immediately.
