Storyteller shares her family history with slavery

Great great granddaughter shares the story of an escaped slave from Hagerstown

hagerstown, MD - About a dozen of people gathered at the miller house museum to listen to a guest speaker talk about her family’s African American history.

Storyteller Fanny Crawford shared her family’s experiences with slavery at the miller house museum. Crawford is the great, great granddaughter of a Henry Barnes who was an escaped slave from Hagerstown.

And was her great grandfather, Thomas Henry Barnes wrote his father's stories down.

Growing up, Crawford said her family used to share the history with her as bedtime stories but now she shares them with audiences as a way to help the people and the stories live on.

The miller house museum hosts the African American Heritage Speaker Program the third Sunday of each month from 1 to 3.
