HAGERSTOWN, Md - On Wednesday night, the Washington County community came together to honor and show their appreciation for everything our local law enforcement agencies do to keep us safe.
The Public Safety Awards Ceremony was hosted at the Kepler Theater at Hagerstown Community College.
The Hagerstown Police Department, Washington County Sheriff's Office, and a few other entities honored their officers for outstanding service and dedication to their jobs.
Awards included deputy of the year, highest criminal arrests, and awards of merit.
"That's the purpose of this event," David Simonetti, the Director of HCC's Police Academy, says, "[It's] to recognize those officers, deputies, and state troopers in our region who have provided exemplary service during the given year."
The Public Safety Awards Ceremony is an annual event, usually held during National Police Week.
The event began at 6:30 on Wednesday night and was open to the public.
