GLENGARY, WV - A tragic accident Tuesday afternoon left a fourth grade girl dead just minutes after she got off the school bus.

Police believe the accident may have been caused when the driver's shoe got caught on a pedal.

Now instead of celebrating the end of the school year, fourth and fifth graders at Mountain Ridge Intermediate School are honoring the life of Darrian Wright.

"One thing that my students wrote and I will remember is that she always tried to cheer everyone up," said Kathy Modlin, a teacher at the school.

Monday afternoon Darrian's grandfather picked her up at her bus stop at the end of Possum Hollow Trail.  He was driving her home when he lost control of his truck and drove it into a ditch.

"It was chaotic.  It was right in the neighborhood with all the family and friends," explains Berkeley County Sheriff Kenny Lemaster.

Police say Darrian died shortly after medics arrived.

At her school, students are adding to a memorial and a crisis team has been on-hand all day.  Students were supposed to be taking a statewide test, but it was postponed for Darrian's fourth grade class and her sister's fifth grade class.

Beth Legrande, a teacher at the school, said, "They're young kids and they're still just able to smile and be with each other.  There have been a lot of tears, but also the beautiful table they've set up for her."

Teachers say the grieving process at the school is about celebrating Darrian's life.  They filled a basket with notes written by her friends, just for her.

School officials say they'll be planning a memorial service that they'll hold by the end of the week.
