CUMBERLAND, Md. The Allegany County Animal Shelter discovered a disturbing scene Friday afternoon at a Cumberland home. They found at least 18 dogs abandoned inside.

Shelter officials say the residents of the home at 661 Greene Street abandoned it about two weeks ago. Their dogs were left there, and when authorities arrived the house was described to be in bad condition with animal feces covering the floors.

"This is extremely bad,” said Becky McClarran, president of the Allegany County Animal Shelter.  “We don't usually get hoarder situations. Occasionally we do but almost always it's a cat hoarder not a dog hoarder."

The animal shelter says they do not know what the conditions of the dogs are as of Friday afternoon, but they were taken immediately to the vet.
