Berkeley County Voter Turnout Better Than Anticipated

BERKELEY COUNTY, W. VA - There were several contested races in the primary. In past primaries, election officials say turnout had been disappointing, only around 12-percent. There were ten days of early voting and during that time, election officials saw about 2,200 voters, significantly lower than 2008, which saw more than 3,000.

"Today started out slow in most of our precincts, and then some of our precincts have called in. They have picked up. Some have been steady. I observed three precincts at Berkeley Heights. One was pretty steady, two were occasional voters. Weather resulting in that I'm sure some," says Bonnie Woodfall, Chief Deputy of Elections in Berkeley County.
