MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Police located a deceased man in a wooded area on Sunday who they said appeared to be Robert M. Langford, of Martinsburg, W.Va., who had been reported missing for weeks.
The Martinsburg Police Department said they were alerted of a possible deceased person in a wooded area behind 750 Balitmore Street in Martinsburg. The caller advised officers that she had been walking in the area, with her pet, when her pet ran into the wooded area. When she went after her pet, she noticed the deceased man.
Officers arrived on scene Sunday and upon further investigation located the deceased white male, who appeared to be the victim of a suicide by way of hanging.
Martinsburg police said it appears the man may be Robert Langford, who was reported missing to officers on June 29, 2014.
They said over the past several weeks multiple agencies have been searching for Langford, speaking to his family and also attempting to monitor his finance accounts.
According to police, the deceased matches the description provided to officers when Langford was reported missing. They said he appeared to be wearing the same clothing as well. There was also some personal effects on him, which lead officers to believe the deceased to be Mr. Langford.
Next of kin has been notified by the Martinsburg Police Department. The deceased is being sent to Charleston, West Virginia for an autopsy in a further attempt to possibly identify him.
