Jessica Wilt was running around like a mad woman Saturday morning, making sandwich after sandwich and taking orders from customers lined up at Mellow Moods Cafe in Shepherdstown.
Mellow Moods was one of the businesses robbed. The suspect got away with around $4,000.
"Jala Yoga, which is what we share the building with, they lost, I think $200. Then Two River Treads which is right down the street, that’s the running store, all three were hit in the same night. A week and a half previously, Blue Moon was hit," said Jessica Wilt, manager of Mellow Moods.
The community is helping ensure these small businesses stay open with a cash mob.
"I think what really stuck out in our minds most was that people would want to visit the business owners and visit the shops directly and actually express their feelings to the business owners and put the money right back into that business directly," said Cari Aliveto Rosen, owner of the Plum, and one of the organizers of the Cash Mob.
The workers said it means so much to have the community support, especially for people like Jessica, who work hard every day to serve the community members.
"They were like, ‘You've given us so much, let us help you.’ And we've had such an enormous outpouring of love and respect from the community. Hopefully, if everything goes the way it should, we'll be here for a long time," Wilt said.
There's also a silent auction Sunday night to help support the Shepherdstown businesses affected by the robberies.
