For many Washington County residents the storm caused chaos, first knocking out the power and then flooding the town. Many homes and businesses were knee-deep in water.
According to lottery officials, although Deanna Fraley only plays the Lottery occasionally, she had decided to go to Al's Pizza and Convenience in Clear Spring to play a few scratch-offs after she lost power.
Officials say one of those tickets, a Red Hot Riches scratch-off, turned out to be a $50,000 top-prize winner.
Lottery officials say Fraley immediately called her husband to share the good news. They say the win couldn't have come at a better time for the couple. Their basement was damaged, and the two say they're glad to have the extra money for necessary repairs.
Officials say in addition to home repairs, Fraley plans to take a vacation to celebrate her win.
The Red Hot Riches scratch-off still has three $50,000 top-prizes remaining.
