Cyber Security Grant Awarded to HCC

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Md.The National Science Foundation announced Thursday a $713,996 grant for cyber security research to Hagerstown Community College, according to Maryland officials.

Officials said the grant will give Hagerstown Community College resources to bolster recruitment for the college’s cyber security program and provide students the opportunity for hands-on learning in cyber security.

Maryland Congressman John K. Delaney praised the grant and said that it will help Hagerstown, and the state, build on its strength as a leader in cyber security.

“If we want to protect our businesses, our families, and our national defense from online attacks, investing in cyber security research and education has to be a top priority," said Rep. Delaney. “The work of both NSF and HCC in meeting that challenge is critically important.”

The award is scheduled to begin in October 1, 2014 and will continue through 2017, according to officials.
