The incident happened at 8:35 a.m. Monday, August 4, 2014 at a residence along Orchard Ridge Road in Hancock.
Deputies said they received a call for an out of control 6-year-old who stabbed his grandmother and was attempting to stab her again, we all as his mother. Upon arrival, deputies entered the home and were confronted by the child who they said appeared larger than normal for a 6-year-old, and weighed approximately 100 lbs.
The boy charged at deputies who say he had a large butcher-type knife in each hand. Deputies said the boy was waving both knives in a slashing motion and attempted to stab them.
They said one shot of pepper spray was sprayed at the child, which caused him to drop the knives and fall to the ground. The child was taken into custody without further incident and transported to Meritus Medical Center for a mental evaluation.
The Washington County Sheriff's Office said no charges are being filed at this time due to the age of the child. The 6-year-old was not harmed as a result of the pepper spray, police say. No deputies were injured in the incident.
The child's grandmother suffered a laceration to her hand, but refused medical treatment.
