Elderly Man Seriously Injured After Being Beaten by a Shovel

WINCHESTER, Va. - The Winchester Police Department is investigating a malicious wounding incident and is asking for the public's help in finding the person or people responsible.

Police say around 10 p.m. Thursday, they received reports of an elderly man with serious injuries in the 200 block of Kern Street.

Upon arrival, authorities found an 82-year-old man who had been beaten with a shovel. Officials say the victim was outside at the time of the attack. 

The victim was taken to Winchester Medical Center to be treated for his injuries.

Officials say the suspect is described as a black male, in brown sweatpants and a dark hooded sweatshirt. 

The incident is currently under investigation and anyone with information is asked to get in touch with the Winchester Police Department or Crime Stoppers at 540-665-TIPS.

A reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest.
