KNOXVILLE, Md.- The frame of the main entrance at 19803 Norstar Lane is all that remains after a fire burned the house completely to the ground.
"Upon arrival firefighters discovered a fire fully engulfed, already breaching through the roof," said Senior Deputy Oliver Alkire, Maryland State Fire Marshal.
The fire occurred just before 3 a.m. Saturday.
"Fire departments took about 90 minutes to control," Alkire said. "Unfortunately, two dogs perished. Currently the fire is under investigation at this time."
The family, two adults and their four children were inside the house when the fire occurred. The homeowner said he actually built the house himself. He and his family had been living there for about seven years. Fortunately, they were all able to make it out safely. The family said they heard glass breaking which woke them up.
"The owners actually thought that someone was breaking inside their house," Alkire said. "When the male homeowner walked out he discovered it was a fire and he alerted both his wife and all children."
Officials say the cause of the fire does not appear to be suspicious.
