Fire under investigation at closed manufacturing plant in Cumberland

Nearly 125 firefighters responded to the scene

CUMBERLAND, Md. - A team of investigators are working to determine the origin and cause of the blaze that heavily damaged one third of the old Artmor Plastics manufacturing plant at 10500 Wills Mountain Road on Wednesday, according to a press release.

Officials say nearly 125 firefighters responded to the scene from Allegany County, Garrett County and West Virginia. The fire was called in around 2:30 p.m. and took nearly two hours to bring safely under control. No injuries were reported, the release says.

A value loss for the property damaged by the fire is under assessment. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Western Regional Office of the State Fire Marshal at (301) 766-3888.
