HAGERSTOWN, MD - Shoppers were excited to welcome the first Walgreens store to Hagerstown. The new location is at Virginia Avenue and Halfway Boulevard.

Customers lined up around the store to get in before 8 a.m. Friday morning.

Walgreens officials say it's the best turnout they've seen before a store has even opened. It includes a pharmacy.

Washington County commissioners say the effort to bring Walgreens to Hagerstown started years ago and the new store represents a stronger economy in the county.

"Things are moving in a positive direction and when you think of healthcare, the pharmacy and the store itself, what it brings to the community is absolutely essential," says Washington County Commissioner John Barr.

The second Walgreens store in Hagerstown will open in two weeks.
