Former Volunteer Firefighter Convicted on Theft Charges

- ALLEGANY COUNTY, Md. - According to the Office of the State's Attorney for Allegany County, a former volunteer firefighter was convicted Thursday of theft and other charges in Allegany County Circuit Court. 

The investigation revealed Douglas William Kiser, of Corriganville, Md., who was a member of the Corriganville Volunteer Fire Department, staged a burglary at the fire department in March 2013. Officials say Kiser stole $5,000 in cash and gift cards from the organization's safe. 

Evidence showed Kiser was one of five people who has access to the safe room, and had used the stolen gift cards at a local convenience store. 

The Court ordered a pre-sentence investigation. They say Kiser will remain free on bond pending his sentencing hearing. 

Kiser is charged with theft having value of $1,000 to under $10,000, and malicious destruction of property. 

This case was investigated by the Maryland State Police and C3I unit.
