"Whether I'm in church, whether I'm volunteering with the community, whether I am at work or even whether I have the opportunity to be on the couch and watch Lifetime, I'm smiling because its an opportunity to just to say, another day accomplished, something positive was completed," said Angela Spencer, honoree.
And it’s that smile and dedication that keeps her motivated to serving the
From the Frederick County Government, to church leadership groups, the local organization the Faith Striders and being an advocate for HIV/AIDS awareness, she balances it all with no complaints.
"I love to serve. I love to give back. I love to help. I love to make a difference," said Spencer. "I believe in order to see the difference you have to be the difference."
And she has made so much of difference that the community decided it was time to thank her. She is one of two women being honored by the Frederick County Commission for Women for her commitment to service.
"Just to be around her and to experience her, she will leave a reflection of who she is on anyone that she comes into contact with," said Kimberly Abernathy, friend of Spencer.
"I'm humbled and honored that someone would see something in me, to even nominate me. I don't do what I do for accolades or for people to say look at this or look at that, I do what I do because I enjoy what I do," said Spencer.
And she hopes that her work will inspire others to do the same.
"I really hope that my energy, my zeal, my desire to serve will encourage others to do the same," said Spencer.
And wherever she may be in the future, she knows she will always try her best to help others.
"So if you choose to be the voice of the voiceless, if you choose to be the hand for those who are unable to serve, and you choose to be the eyes for those who cant see, you will be making a difference; a positive one, and that's what I choose to continue to do in this community and where ever else I may be in the future," said Spencer.
