Suspect Released from Hospital in Officer-Involved Shooting

On Monday August 18, 2014 the suspect, Roy Turner, was discharged from R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma after receiving medical care for injuries sustained during the officer involved shooting over the weekend.

Turner has been transported to the Frederick County Adult Detention Center, where he is now awaiting an initial appearance before a District Court Commissioner.

- A Frederick police officer and another man were involved in an altercation that left both injured on Saturday.

According to police, Roy Turner appeared suspicious to the officer, which led him to approach Turner to further investigate.

"During that investigation and that encounter with a vehicle and a driver, that driver then struck our officer with his car," said Lt. Clark Pennington, with the Frederick Police Department. "The officer fired into the vehicle striking the driver one time."

The encounter between Turner and the unnamed officer started on W. Patrick Street. Turner then fled the scene.

"He actually stopped in the area of Baughman's Lane and Shookstown Road where he was taken into custody," Pennington said.

Amid the chaos, neighbors in the area were shocked to see their normally peaceful neighborhood flooded with police for more than three hours.

"With the amount of police officers, we knew something was definitely going on," said Greg Tyler, a neighbor. "I've never seen so many police officers in my life."

Police said both Turner and the officer were sent to neighboring hospitals to treat their wounds. The officer was treated and released after sustaining injuries to his legs, back and hip area.

"It was serious enough for him to receive treatment at a local hospital. He has since been treated and released," Pennington said.

Turner, who was shot once in the arm, was still being treated for injuries at Baltimore Shock Trauma on Sunday.

Turner is being charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance with the intent to distribute, failure to stop his vehicle at the scene of an accident that resulted in the injury of another, and an attempt to elude police.
