Frederick Police Investigate Accidental Shooting

FREDERICK, Md.  - Frederick City Police are investigating an accidental shooting that happened Thursday evening.

Authorities say the incident happened around 5:20 p.m. at 90 Waverly Drive.

When police arrived, they found one male victim with a gunshot wound to the leg. He was taken to Meritus Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

Police say the suspect, Oscar Vasquez, was the roommate of the victim. The two were handling a gun they found earlier, and when Vasquez held the gun in a negligent way it caused the gun to off.

Vasquez has been charged with reckless endangerment and discharging a firearm in city limits.

He's currently being held at the Frederick County Adult Detention Center

Police believe this was an isolated situation.
