Frederick Rape Investigation Continues

- FREDERICK, Md. - Locals were left with many unanswered questions after witnessing dozens of police personnel all along East Patrick Street and Davis Avenue, Monday morning.

"When I came home, I had found out there had been lots of activity in the area but I didn't know what was going on," said Janet Wilbourne, who lives near the incident.

According to police, a woman was attacked from behind while walking in a wooded area along the busy street. They are searching for the attacker, who the woman describes as a white male with a muscular build. She also said he was about 6'0" tall with short blonde hair.

A neighbor said he witnessed a man running out of the wooded area where the assault took place minutes before police arrived.

Officials with the Frederick Police Department, Frederick County Sheriff's office and K-9 units were all on hand and an Maryland State Police chopper flew over the scene getting aerials. It was enough commotion to grab the attention of locals.

"I didn't know what was going on but I decided to stay in and lock the doors," said Susan Kelley, who lives near the incident.

Another neighbor who declined an on camera interview recalled seeing a woman who appeared battered speaking to police. A story that has circulated through the community.

"The neighbors said that there was a young girl that was violated," said Donald Jenkins, a local.

For some, this incident is the straw that broke the camels back. One neighbor said she plans to move with her family soon. By contrast, others are unaffected.

"I've been here since 2005 and there have been things that have happened all around me but I still feel safe," said Wilbourne.
