The Frederick County Sheriff's Office said Terry Freland, 58, of Frederick, Md., is charged with one count of vulnerable adult abuse and 22 counts of second-degree assault.
Deputies say around 7 a.m. Thursday they were called to the 7000 block of Basswood Road for an assault call. The investigation revealed that Freland had been hired by a woman in December 2013 to care for her elderly mother who had been diagnosed with Dementia.
In the last few months, the daughter began observing injuries on her mother. She then purchased a hidden video camera in order to observe Freland interacting with her mother. On Wednesday evening, July 9, the video camera was placed in the victim's home, unbeknownst to Freland. That same evening, after Freland left the house, the daughter reviewed the video, which showed Freland verbally and physically abusing her mother.
Freland was arrested and initially transported to the Frederick County Law Enforcement Center. Since then she has been transported to the Frederick County Adult Detention Center's Central Booking Unit for processing.
The Frederick County Sheriff's Office says they're continuing to investigate this case. Anyone with information regarding Freland and the private care she provides to members of the community are encouraged to call Det. Joseph McCallion at 301-600-1022.
