Customers can stop by on Thursday, March 20 from to and receive a free cup of whichever Italian ice flavor they prefer.
The tradition has been going on for over 20 years. Ryan Linger, an employee at Rita’s, says he’s been working hard to prepare for the special day.
"Yesterday we were making ices pretty much all evening,” Linger said. “I was here earlier making ices, so it’s a long process and it’s definitely tiring, but it’s definitely worth it to see everyone come and get their free ice and be happy about it because it’s spring.”
Customers, like Shea Moreland and Jessica Harless, were happy to take a break from the winter weather, and enjoy their free treat.
"It’s a game changer, I’m definitely glad there’s no more snow,” Moreland said.
"Very refreshing to have the snow away for a little bit,” Harless said. “Long enough to enjoy some nice Rita’s.”
Unfortunately, snow is still in the forecast, but Rita’s hopes customers continue to come back for more since they’re open the rest of the season into the summer.
“It’s been brutal with this past winter, and I know we’re supposed to get more snow next Tuesday,” Linger says. “They come today on the first day of spring and during the summertime hopefully we’ll get lots more people to come.”
Rita's locations will now be open for the season, check out their website for hours at a location near you.
