Gunshot Victim Shows Up At Local Hospital

KEYSER, W.Va. - An investigation is underway after a gunshot victim showed up at an area hospital.

This happened just after 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Potomac Valley Hospital.

The victim said an altercation happened in McCoole, Maryland earlier in the day. The victim advised an altercation happened at a house along McCool Drive between him and the suspect, who was later identifed as Roger Lee Paugh Jr., 22, of Elk Garden, West Virginia. 

According to the victim, Paugh struck him in the face, then pulled out a handgun and shot it in the direction of the victim's head. The victim had turned to run and was subsequently struck in the hand by the bullet. Paugh fled the scene before deputies could arrive. 

An investigation was conducted by West Virginia State Police, along with the Mineral County Sheriff's Office. Paugh was located in the Keyser, W.Va., area, and taken into custody without incident.

He's facing several charges, including attempted second-degree murder, first and second-degree assault, obtaining a handgun, and firearm use/felony violent crime.

He will be held at the Potomac Highlands Regional Jail pending extradited back to Maryland.
