Hagerstown Man Sentenced in Sexual Abuse Case

- BERKELEY COUNTY, W.Va. - A Hagerstown man is behind bars for physically assaulting two boys, and sexually assaulting a five-year-old girl.

James E. Anderson III, 20, was sentenced to 15 to 50 years in prison in Berkeley County Circuit Court on Tuesday.

In January 6, 2014, Anderson pleaded guilty under Alford circumstances to several charges, including second-degree sexual assault, first-degree sexual abuse of a victim under 12-years-old and two counts of domestic battery.

An Alford plea is when you do not admit to the crime, but admit there's enough evidence against you.

The victims were not present during Tuesday's sentencing hearing.

During a forensic interview in May 2013, the young girl told police she was manipulated by Anderson into performing sexual acts between early March 2013 and May 2013, according to court records.

In addition to the sentencing, Anderson was ordered to pay restitution to the sexual abuse victim to pay for any future medical, psychological or psychiatric treatment.

The case was investigated by the Berkeley County Sheriff's Department.
