Hagerstown PetSmart Distribution Center to Close

HAGERSTOWN, Md.The PetSmart distribution center in Hagerstown will be closing its doors soon, according to a corporate spokesperson for the company.

PetSmart says a new, larger distribution center will open in Bethel, Pennsylvania in March, replacing their distribution centers in Hagerstown and Gahanna, Ohio.

"The grand opening of the Bethel distribution center will be held on Friday, March 28,” said PetSmart Corporate Communications Manager Erin Gray. “With the addition of this new distribution center, we're looking to add about 500 jobs."

The company has offered the 150 employees who will be affected to transfer to the new center.

"We've invited all current associates at the Gahanna and the Hagerstown distribution centers to make the move with PetSmart to Pennsylvania or to move us with to Groveport, Ohio,” said Gray. "Of the 150 associates affected, more than one-third have decided to take advantage of the opportunity [to be transferred], and the rest right now are still weighing their options."

PetSmart says the new distribution center will be larger and offer more services to the northeast region. Gray could comment on when exactly the Hagerstown center will be closing.
