Hedgesville Man Shot in the Leg, Suspect Arrested

HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. - West Virginia State Police are investigating a late night shooting in Hedgesville that sent one man to the hospital. 

The incident happened at 10:56 p.m. Wednesday, July 2 at 1615 Conservation Drive. Upon arrival, troopers saw a man lying on the ground in the front yard, with a gunshot wound to his leg. 

The suspect was located within the residence and identified as Robert Leland Gross, 53, Hedgesville, and placed into custody. 

The victim, identified as Clinton David Mauck, 50, of Hedgesville, was transported by EMS to Winchester Hospital for treatment of his wound. 

State police say the incident stemmed from a verbal altercation over the sale of a vehicle. 

Gross is currently being held at the Eastern Regional Jail awaiting arraignment on the charge of malicious wounding.
