Doctor Gary Carver of the American Chestnut Foundation visited the training center to show inmates how to plant and grow chestnut seedlings.
This particular center was chosen because of the success the inmates in the Patuxtent Institute had a year ago, being the first inmates in the nation to successfully grow chestnut seedlings.
"The way I look at it, I armed myself with another tool to succeed out there and right now everybody's going green. So being in the greenhouse and doing gardening and planting, this is only good for the environment," said Thomas Harison, MCTC inmate.
Inmates of the Maryland Correctional Training Center said they're excited to start the program, and to also help restore Maryland's environment.
