WHAG NEWS - A West Virginia high school principal has been sentenced to three weekends in jail for hitting and killing a 26-year-old woman last year on Sharpsburg Pike.

Court officials say William H. Guth, of Hagerstown, Md., pleaded guilty Thursday in Washington County Circuit Court to criminal negligent vehicular manslaughter. A judge sentenced the 58-year-old to nine days in jail, which will be served only on the weekends, following three years probation.

Guth is the principal of Jefferson High School.

As you may recall, Guth was charged in the death of Priyanka Malik, whom state police say he struck and killed shortly before 9 p.m. on March 11, 2013 near a local Food Lion. State police say Malik stepped into the road when she was hit by Guth's 2006 Jeep Liberty.

Malik was a native of India working in the United States.
