Police said Charles Boatwright, 44, and Anthony Thornton, 46, are both charged with armed robbery, conspiracy to commit armed robbery, first and second-degree assault, theft over $100,000 and reckless endangerment.
Police said Boatwright was identified as a result of video evidence and was located by police in the area of the Westview Cinemas. Thornton was also identified in surveillance video. He was apprehended when he was seen looking through a trash bin near the jewelry store.
Police said two other suspects remain at large. The incident caused quite a commotion Wednesday morning.
“As I walked out to sit down and eat they already had the guy, one person locked up and in the back of a car. I like to sit outside to people watch and this was definitely dinner and a show,” said Robert Nelson, who witnessed one of the suspects being taken into custody.
The Frederick County Sheriff’s Office and the Maryland State Police helicopter responded to the scene at Wholesale Diamond Consultants just before 11 a.m. for the report of an armed robbery.
“A handgun was displayed. There are no injuries and everyone fled on foot,” said Capt. Tim Clarke of the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office. “All indications are that they walked in, two came in initially and then two followed up and came in after the first two, they did not have masks or anything on.”
As a result of this armed robbery, two local schools were also placed on lockdown. The lockdown has now been lifted.
No customers were inside the store at the time of the robbery. The investigation continues and anyone with any information is asked to contact the sheriff’s office at (301)-600-1046.
FREDERICK COUNTY, Md. - The Frederick County Sheriff's Office is investigating an armed robbery at a local jewelry store.
It happened around 10:49 a.m. at Wholesale Diamond Consultants located on 5301 Buckeystown Pike in Frederick.
First arriving units were on the scene at 10:51 a.m. Deputies have set up a perimeter has been established and an active search for the suspects is underway. Preliminary reports indicate that a handgun was displayed during the robbery, and that three men and a woman may be involved, according to a written release.
As a result of the robbery, Ballenger Creek Elementary and the Carroll Creek Montessori School have been placed on a lock down status.
The Frederick County Sheriff's Office is also being assisted by Maryland State Police helicopter, Trooper 3.
Deputies tell WHAG's Shayna Halper the suspects took off on foot and ran across Buckeystown Pike, and that's the last known direction.
