MERCERSBURG, Pa. - Hancock Police officials have confirmed a Sergeant with their department, Shawn Tasker, lost his life after his motorcycle hit a deer.

Dispatchers say the call came in just about 6:00 PM Saturday evening for a motorcycle versus deer accident along the 10,000 block of Little Cove Road in Mercersburg. Multiple units responded from both Pennsylvania and Maryland.

The Life Net helicopter was called to the scene to transport Tasker to a hospital in Altoona for his injuries, where he later died.

Tasker was 47 years old and served with the Hancock police department for 21 years. Currently, the Hancock Police Department front door is draped in black in his memory. They say he loved working with the children in the community, and he will be missed by everyone in Hancock.

"It's just been kid of a shock, I know the law enforcement community here and its tough when it's somebody that you work closely with day in and day out, and we will definitely remember Sgt. Tasker and everything he has done here for Hancock," said Chief TJ Buskirk, Hancock Police Department.

Officials with the Hancock Police Department said Tasker was off duty at the time of the accident.
