Members took Donald Leo Fishel, 50, into custody on Tuesday, June 10, 2014 after he was caught will multiple stolen items in his possession.
The Allegany County Sheriff's Office says on Tuesday they received a tip that there was a large amount of stolen property from the area, as well as items taken from Morgan and Hampshire Counties in West Virginia, at a local scrap yard.
Deputies responded to Scrap Brothers, a scrap yard located in Paw Paw, West Virginia, along with law enforcement from Morgan and Hampshire County. Once there, they obtained consent from the owner to search the property.
During the search authorities recovered a stolen Husqvarna lawn tractor that was reported taken from Naylor's Hardware on Industrial Boulevard in Cumberland, Md., earlier that morning. As police continued to search, they found a large amount of stolen property at the scrap yard.
Members with C3I were called in to assist. They say the owner of the scrap yard was questioned and provided investigators with a name of the man who sold the items to him. Based on this information, police responded to a house in Oldtown where they searched the residence and additional stolen items were recovered.
Fishel was subsequently arrested and is currently being held at the Allegany County Detention Center on $5,000 bond pending his next court appearance.
Investigators say numerous items were reported stolen from homes in the Oldtown area. Among the items recovered is another Husqvarna lawn tractor, weed eaters, chain saws, lawn mowers, generators and other power tools. Anyone who may have been a victim is asked to call the C3I Unit at 301-777-0326.
