Man Burned After Explosion in Washington County, Md.

- SMITHSBURG, Md. - A man had to be taken to the hospital after officials say he got burned from an explosion Sunday afternoon in Washington County, Maryland.

It happened around 2:30 p.m. on Chips Court in the Chips Meadow area of Smithsburg.

The adult male was burned on his face after a small explosion, according to James Ulrich, the chief of operations for Smithsburg EMS.

The victim was removing gasoline from a water craft, and then neighbors reported hearing a loud noise, similar to a cannon or gunshot, Ulrich said.

The man was taken by ambulance to Meritus Medical Center and is listed in stable condition.
