Man Identified in Fatal Crash on Route 9 Bypass


BERKELEY COUNTY, W.Va. - New information has been released in the car accident that took one life Saturday in Berkeley County

Police say the accident happened around 11:06 p.m. on the Route 9 bypass near Short Road. Deputies with the Berkeley County Sheriff's Office say they responded to the area for a welfare check. 

Witnesses say the man, now identified as Peter Mclaughlin, was wearing all black and standing in the middle of the road waving his arms at passing cars. 

When officers arrived, Mclaughlin had been been struck and killed by an oncoming car in the eastbound lane of Route 9, just west of Short Road. 

Medical units were unable to revive him, and he was pronounced dead on scene. 

The investigation is ongoing.
