ALLEGANY COUNTY, Md. - A local man was sentenced to serve four years in prison Wednesday after police say he had touched a 5-year-old girl inappropriately.

Richard Lee Baker was sentenced to 10 years with six years suspended on third-degree sex offense charges for an incident that occurred in Allegany County.

The case was initiated when the 5-year-old victim disclosed to her mother that Baker had touched her in a sexually inappropriate manner, according to the Allegany County State's Attorneys Office.

Court officials say the contact constituted as third-degree sexual offense due to the fact that the victim was only 5-years-old at the time. An investigation into the incident was conducted by the Combined County Criminal Investigation Unit, headed by the Detective Vincent Benson, as well as the Cumberland Police Department.

Upon release from jail, Baker will be placed on five years of supervised probation with conditions that he register as a sex offender for life. He also must complete a sexual offender treatment evaluation, and submit a DNA sample to the sex offender registry. He must also have no contact with the victim or any unsupervised contact with any minor children.
