It happened on Saturday, March 29 around 8:48 a.m. at the M&T Bank on 17434 Valley Mall Road in Hagerstown.
Deputies say a man approached another man and woman, who were in the parking lot of the bank. The man demanded the woman's purse. They say the woman's purse was wrapped around her arm, making it difficult for her to let it go. The man pulled aggressively from the woman's body, causing her to fall to the ground.
The man was able to pull the purse from the woman, and flee the area.
The two were able to provide a description of the man to deputies.
Shortly after the incident, deputies received reports of a man matching the suspect's description running through yards near the location of the theft. Deputies located the man, and after a brief chase, he was taken into custody.
Perry Tyrone Ford Jr., 21, is charged with one count of robbery, one count of second-degree assault, one count of theft less than $1,000, and one count of false statement to a peace officer.
Deputies were able to recover the stolen purse and its contents. Ford is currently being held at the Washington County Detention Center on a $100,000 bond.
