Man Taken to Hospital in Serious Motorcycle Accident

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Md. - One man was transported to the hospital Thursday afternoon following a serious motorcycle accident, according to James Ulrich, chief of operations with Smithsburg EMS, Inc. 

Officials said on Thursday, August 14 at 5:35 p.m. Smithsburg Emergency Medical Services were dispatched to the 21900 block of Leitersburg Smithsburg Road between Still Meadow Road and Durberry Road for a reported motorcycle accident. 

Personnel arrived to find a single motorcycle off of the road in a yard. They said the motorcycle, which had significant damage, was operated by an adult male, who was found lying in the yard upon EMS arrival. 

The man was taken to Meritus Medical Center by ambulance. He was classified as a trauma patient and was transported in serious condition, Ulrich said. 

The Leitersburg Volunteer Fire Company also responded and assisted at the scene.
