Officers say the burglary was reported on January 20, 2014 on 200 W Martins Street.
The victim told police she had left her apartment to walk her dog that afternoon and was gone for about 20 minutes. When she returned she found that someone had been inside her place, and items were missing. She also admitted to police she had left her door unlocked.
The woman advised police she believed her neighbor, Vincent Barrett, 21, was involved.
She said he approached her in the hallway and asked her if her husband was home before she left. She also said the building's exterior door was locked when she came back, and said this was uncommon. She told police Barrett showed up to unlock the door for her.
The total value reported stolen was around $565.
On Jan. 21, 2014 police discovered Barrett had pawned some jewelry at Paradise Pawn in Martinsburg. The jewelry's description appeared to match some of the jewelry reported stolen.
Officers were granted a search warrant of Barrett's apartment and found items that were initially reported stolen in his bedroom. Barrett was placed under arrest and charged with receiving and transferring stolen goods and burglary.
Barrett is currently being held at the Eastern Regional Jail awaiting further court action.
