Mother Allegedly Poisons Two Sons with Eye Drops, Faces Charges

ADAMS COUNTY, Pa. - A local mother is facing multiple charges after allegedly poisoning her two sons with Visine eye drops, sending one to the hospital.

According to Pennsylvania court records, Samantha Elizabeth Unger, 23, of Gettysburg, Pa., is charged with three counts of aggravated assault and two counts of endangering the welfare of children.

Both the 3-year-old and 1-year-old child allegedly suffered from poisoning at the hands of Unger. She admitted to state police she put Visine in her 3-year-old's juice and water, but her 1-year-old son accidentally consumed the poisoned drinks she intended to serve to his brother, police say.

Unger has since reportedly moved to Thurmont, Maryland following the allegations against her.

Adams County court officials say Unger has not been charged with attempted murder because she did not show a specific intent to kill her children.

Both children are reportedly in the custody of their grandfather at this time.

Court records indicate Unger was being held at the Adams County Jail on $50,0000 bond. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 11 a.m. on July 24.
