Mother Files Lawsuit After Son Dies in Tough Mudder Event


GERRARDSTOWN, W.Va. – The mother of a Maryland man who died while competing in a Tough Mudder event last spring in Berkeley County, W.Va., has filed a lawsuit against the organization claiming negligence.

As we've reported, Avishek Sengupta, 28, of Ellicott CityMd., passed away On April 20, 2013 after participating in the Tough Mudder competition near Gerrardstown, West Virginia. Friends say Avishek was critically injured on the "Walk the Plank" obstacle.

Officials say he was underwater four to seven minutes, resuscitated after 50 minutes of CPR but later died from brain swelling.

On April 18, 2014 Avishek's mother, Mita Sengupta, filed a lawsuit in Marshall County Circuit Court against Tough Mudder LLC and other participating organizations including, Airsquid Ventures Inc., citing wrongful death.

Sengupta is seeking damages and costs in an amount to be decided by the court.
