Mother Found Dead Two Days After Child Neglect Arrest

WINCHESTER, Va. - A mother who recently made news following her arrest was found dead in her home in the 100 block of Clifford Street on Friday.

Stacey Rodgers was arrested last Wednesday, only two days before her death, for child neglect. Police said they found her three-year-old daughter wandering the neighborhood streets alone.

According to a search warrant filed in Winchester Circuit Court, Rodgers was found unresponsive at 1:38 p.m. Friday by the person who called 911. The caller’s identity has not been released.

The search warrant states that the caller left around 4 a.m. that morning to go to work, at which point Rodgers appeared to be “Medically ill.” At the time of calling 911, the caller told dispatch that Rodgers was “Lying on the floor, not moving and not breathing.”

Fire and Rescue personnel, along with Winchester Police, arrived on the scene. After attempting to provide treatment, officials pronounced Rodgers dead on scene.

The investigation is still in its early stages, and even though police have not commented on the cause of death at this point, nothing has been ruled out.
